Airport scale and timeline
Al Maktoum International Airport expansion was approved in April 2024 at AED 128 billion (USD 34.85 billion). Published design figures include 260 million passengers per year, 5 runways, around 400 gates, 430+ stands, 2 terminals, and 7 concourses.
DXB is referenced at around 95 million passengers in 2025, so the design scale is roughly five times DXB capacity. Phase 1 completion is expected by 2032.
Connectivity and transport
Published transport links include a 14-station Automated People Mover, Etihad Rail integration, and Blue Line Metro extension support into the wider Dubai South system.
Al Ghadeer is approximately 16 minutes from Al Maktoum International Airport via E311. Dubai South itself is a 145 sq km planned city with up to 1 million residents and an economic target of generating more than 25% of Dubai GDP by 2030.
